Round 1


Interested in competing?

You must identify and recruit a team that includes at least one faculty member from Pitt. Think carefully about the problem you want to solve and develop ideas for a creative solution. Then, create a short (less than two minutes) video that:

  • Defines the problem that you are proposing to solve (related to the PInCh challenge)
  • Presents your innovative solution
  • Introduces your team of problem solvers

The University Library System’s One Button Video Recording Studio has a video recording studio available to you. This simplified video recording setup does not require any video production experience. Reserve the studio here: http://library.pitt.edu/one-button.

Need help with your PInCh video submission?
Come by the sciVelo office (3602 Fifth Ave) on Wednesday 5/10 or Thursday 5/11 from 5- 7 PM for guidance on video scripts and how to best present your idea.

To enter the contest:

  1. From the PInCh website, click the “Enter the Pitt Innovation Challenge” button on the left side of the page.
  2. Login to the PInCh contest management site using your HSConnect account (if you do not have an HSConnect account, click the “Create one now!” link on the right side of the page).
    • Note: HSConnect is a secure authentication system supported by the Health Sciences Department at the University of Pittsburgh.
  3. Complete your profile to tell us who you are! Invite other team members to join by using the “Invite Team Member” link and entering their email address (they will receive an email with a link to the PInCh contest management site).
    • Note: At least one member of your team must be a Pitt faculty member.
  4. Register your idea by creating a new project. Please provide:
    1. a short project title (which will be used to identify your team publicly)
    2. a one sentence description of your solution
    3. a brief project abstract
  5. Submit a link to your video during the round 1 submission period (see Important Dates for the submission period start and end dates). Please make sure that your video is not password protected.

Submission Requirements:

The video submission for the round 1 must meet the following requirements:
  • The video must be two minutes or less in length.
  • The video must address the contest challenge question.
  • The video must be posted on a publicly available site (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo). When posting your video on a hosting site, please:
    1. disable comments
    2. ensure the video settings allow download
    3. do not use copyrighted materials (e.g. background music)
    4. do not password protect your video
    5. Consider this video a public disclosure. If you are worried about how to talk about potential Intellectual Property, we can help you get in touch with the Innovation Institute.
